1924 - 2017
Barnabus Arnasungaaq (1924-2017) was born in Baker Lake, a hamlet in Nunavut, Canada. He was eagerly involved in a pilot sculpting project that began in the area in the 1960s. He has also worked as a mentor for young artists and inspired his sons to take up carving and become artists themselves. Arnasungaaq participated in his first group show in 1964 and was part of over 100 shows during his career. His work is part of important collections at the National Gallery of Canada, Royal Ontario Museum and the University of British Columbia’s Museum of Anthropology.
