1947-2023
Duane Perkins (1947-2023) was a ceramic artist born in Chicago who settled in Winnipeg in 1970. After studying philosophy and political science at Bethel College in Minnesota, he switched to ceramics at the University of Minnesota before establishing his career in Canada, becoming a citizen in 1977. For over 50 years, Perkins specialized in porcelain work, focusing on form, color, and surface techniques.
His ceramic pieces are held in collections throughout Canada, Japan, and Europe. With a background in philosophy, Perkins approached his work with attention to detail and craftsmanship. Beyond his studio practice, he enjoyed gardening and landscape design. While he often worked independently, he maintained close relationships with his family and occasionally mentored younger artists. Perkins passed away in June 2023, leaving behind a body of work that represents his dedication to ceramic arts in Canada.
