This collection of works spans the last two decades of Porkant’s career and features both his paintings and sculptures. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, Pokrant’s work is often inspired by the awesome beauty of wilderness places. Water, watercraft, shorelines and floating lilies are recurring themes in his work, as is the reflective quality of water. This dynamic body of work is often thematic or historical, sometimes reflecting on the creative process itself. Of his long career, Pokrant writes, “Art for me is a lifelong process and a magical journey that holds endless fascination.”

Born in 1947 in Rosenfeld, Manitoba, Luther Pokrant received his B.F.A. degree at the University of Manitoba School of Art, and his Master of Arts degree from New Mexico State University. He was a lecturer at the University of Regina for four years and is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. His work is inspired by the natural beauty of Manitoba. He enjoys canoeing, fishing, and Jets hockey. Water lily compositions and landscapes are favourite painting subjects. His illustrative work is thematic or historical, often of other artists and their work,  or the creative process itself, sometimes as 3-D mixed media constructions. He has illustrated a number of books on various subjects. His painting ‘Falcons Forever’ was exhibited at Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and is on permanent display at the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. He has been a juror for many regional art shows and has exhibited extensively across Canada in solo and group shows. His work is represented in numerous private and public collections. As a practicing professional artist, he has maintained the same studio in Winnipeg’s exchange district for 44 years.
