Eddie Kakepetum (1953–2014) was an Oji-Cree visual artist born in Red Sucker Lake, Manitoba. Raised in a traditional fishing and trapping community, he developed an interest in visual art at a young age, drawing inspiration from local oral histories, spiritual traditions, and the surrounding natural environment.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, paper, and wood, Kakepetum’s studio practice was rooted in the Woodland School tradition. His compositions featured signature black outlines, stylized animal forms, and vibrant colour palettes. His artwork frequently depicted spiritual iconography, northern wildlife, intergenerational family connections, and traditional legends.

Throughout his career, Kakepetum lived and worked in northern Manitoba, maintaining an active studio practice while contributing to local community initiatives. His work has been exhibited in regional public art spaces and is held in public and municipal collections across Manitoba, including the Province of Manitoba Art Collection.
