Keith Thomson

Keith L. Thomson, ASA, is a Canadian painter, printmaker, and educator born in southern Saskatchewan. Raised in a farming community near Craven in the Qu'Appelle Valley, he moved to Calgary to pursue formal training at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and Art (later the Alberta College of Art, now Alberta University of the Arts). He completed a four-year diploma in commercial art, subsequently spending seven years working as a graphic designer and illustrator.

Thomson returned to the Alberta College of Art as a faculty member, where he instructed for twenty-five years. His curriculum coverage included life drawing, anatomy, silkscreen printing, reproduction processes, and watercolour painting within the Visual Communications department. During his tenure, he also served ten years as the head program coordinator for Visual Communications. Alongside his academic career, he was elected to the Alberta Society of Artists (ASA).

Thomson's studio practice focuses on watercolour painting, supplemented by printmaking mediums including serigraphy and etching. His work documents the environment of Western Canada, with an emphasis on rural architecture, agricultural landscapes, foothills, and local tree species such as aspen groves. His work is represented in public institutional holdings, including the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
