Lawrence Beaulieu

Lawrence Stephen Beaulieu (b. 1959) is a Canadian visual artist born in Edmonton, Alberta. Raised in Abbotsford, British Columbia, during his early childhood, he returned with his family to Edmonton in 1967. While attending Calder Elementary School in Edmonton, Beaulieu was introduced to Indigenous visual art following a presentation by Woodland School painter Norval Morrisseau, an encounter that sparked his lifelong commitment to drawing and painting.

Working primarily in acrylics on canvas, board, and paper, Beaulieu's studio practice incorporates stylized depictions of wildlife, nature, and figurative subjects influenced by Indigenous artistic traditions. In 1986, he received a commission from the Canadian federal government to produce four paintings. His artwork was subsequently featured as part of the cultural displays organized for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Alberta. Following a major medical crisis in 2002 that required an extended period of rehabilitation, Beaulieu resumed his creative work and continued his studio practice based out of Edmonton.
