Luther Pokrant (born 1947, southwestern Manitoba) is a distinguished Canadian artist whose work is deeply inspired by the natural landscapes of his home province. After earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba in 1969 and a Master of Arts from New Mexico State University in 1970, Pokrant embarked on a career that spans over four decades. A member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and the Manitoba Society of Artists, Pokrant’s work reflects his strong connection to the outdoors, particularly his love for canoeing and fishing. His landscapes, often featuring serene water lily compositions, showcase his enduring fascination with water, reflective surfaces, and the peaceful beauty of Manitoba’s forests and lakes.
Pokrant's technical versatility shines through his use of various media, including painting, collage, and 3D illustration. He has a particular interest in historical and thematic illustration, often exploring the creative process or paying tribute to other artists. His highly detailed and visually rich works have earned him numerous commissions and have been displayed in corporate and public collections, including those of Shell Canada, Cargill Grain Ltd., and the Bronfman Claridge Collection. Throughout his career, Pokrant has remained committed to the idea that art is a lifelong, evolving journey—one that continues to captivate and inspire him. His works are a testament to his dedication to the natural world and the ongoing process of artistic discovery.
