F.S. Coburn (1871-1960) was a renowned Canadian painter, illustrator, and photographer. Born in Quebec, he trained extensively in Europe before returning to Canada. Coburn initially gained fame illustrating works like William Henry Drummond's The Habitant, capturing rural Quebec life. Later, inspired by Maurice Cullen, he became celebrated for his vibrant winter landscapes featuring horse-drawn sleds. A member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, his work is found in esteemed collections worldwide, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Tate Gallery.
