Marthe Rakine (1904-1996) was a celebrated Canadian-Swiss painter of Russian origin known for her exceptional use of color. Born in Moscow, she trained in Paris at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs and Académie de la Grande Chaumière. After emigrating to Canada in 1948, she quickly gained recognition for her vibrant work. Rakine's paintings are held in prestigious collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
