Where Would I Rather Be ? – Sheila Kernan
On Display at 212 McDermot Ave in Winnipeg
The live exhibit opens June 10th and closes June 30th at our 212 McDermot Avenue gallery
Inspiration hits at the most unique and sometimes odd times. This exhibition was no exception. I was reading a “Reptile Rumble (who will win?)” scholastic book to my son and it hit me. My show should be about convergence. I asked myself, “Where Would I Rather Be?” Setting out to create a show that blends together both nature and city life (My two loves). “Where Would I Rather Be?” is an exhibition about pairings, fantastical combinations, and fun. There are 14 paintings and 7 pairings. One nature scene next to one city painting each the exact same size and for the most part orientation. The works are carefully executed and connected by utilizing the same or complementary colour palettes and compositional connections. Its straight edges vs curved lines, neon lights vs natural light, manmade vs unknown, high energy vs soft energy… I invite you to come to check out my unique pairings and ask yourself, “Where Would I Rather Be?” For me, it changes daily.
