Shepard Fairey is a major figure in the contemporary street art movement. Amongst his most well-known works are the “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” campaign, the Obey trademark and his “Hope” campaign poster for President Barack Obama. Fairey is famous for his activist and humanitarian concerns and often creates and donates artwork in order to promote awareness and show support. His work, which often centers on recurring themes of political power, propaganda, and portraiture, can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.
