Artist Statement:

After working out of a studio in downtown Winnipeg for 45 years, Lydia and I with her son and his family moved to a 50 acre rural area near Roseau River in Southeastern Manitoba in May 2023. When Dana Mayberry asked me to do some new work for a show, I found readily available subject matter around me including poplar and oak bush, rustic architecture, river shoreline, birds and animals, and colours and patterns of all kinds. The ever changing seasons and cycles of nature make me reflect on the passage of time and the gratitude of being an artist who makes paintings that portray these aspects of one's life in a gallery that exhibits them as a themed show.

An opening reception is taking place with Luther Pokrant in attendance on Saturday, October 12th between 2 pm and 5 pm

Born in 1947 in Rosenfeld, Manitoba, Luther Pokrant received his B.F.A. degree at the University of Manitoba School of Art, and his Master of Arts degree from New Mexico State University. He was a lecturer at the University of Regina for four years and is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. His work is inspired by the natural beauty of Manitoba. He enjoys canoeing, fishing, and Jets hockey. Water lily compositions and landscapes are favourite painting subjects. His illustrative work is thematic or historical, often of other artists and their work,  or the creative process itself, sometimes as 3-D mixed media constructions. He has illustrated a number of books on various subjects. His painting ‘Falcons Forever’ was exhibited at Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and is on permanent display at the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. He has been a juror for many regional art shows and has exhibited extensively across Canada in solo and group shows. His work is represented in numerous private and public collections. As a practicing professional artist, he has maintained the same studio in Winnipeg’s exchange district for 44 years.
