Gabor L. Nagy
Gabor L. Nagy was born in Hungary in 1945. He was educated in Canada, graduating in 1974 with a degree in regional planning from the University of Alberta. His interest in art led him to continue his education through workshops and courses in design, drawing and painting.
Nagy began to paint seriously in 1968. His work evolved through the media of watercolour, gouache, acrylics and eventually oils. Nagy believes art is a way of life that one must evolve into. It is an accumulative body of knowledge with roots that are deeply imbedded in the past. It is therefore important to keep in touch with the international art world by reading, visiting exhibitions and retrospectives abroad.
This artist has always been extremely interested in reflective surfaces. His interest can be clearly seen in the subject matter he chooses to explore, whether it be brightly coloured fish in a sun-dappled pond or cut flowers and glass in his studio. In search of inspiring subject matter, Nagy often visits water gardens in North America and Hawaii in order to explore the nuances of colour and light in different locales and under a variety of conditions. The knowledge gleened from these explorations is clearly evidenced in his painting and photography. Photography is an essential part of his creative process, as it allows him to capture fleeting moments in nature. These moments captured by the camera can then be expanded upon on the canvas in the studio setting!
Nagy’s sumptuous paintings are represented in major private and corporate collections world wide.
