Alex Musgrove Wanted for Purchase or Consignment

(1882 - 1952)

Alexander Musgrove, born in Scotland, was an influential painter and teacher who played an important part in forging the art scene of Manitoba. He relocated to Winnipeg in 1913 as curator and teacher of the newly founded Winnipeg School of Art. In 1914, he founded and was first president of The Winnipeg Art Students Club (later renamed Winnipeg Sketch Club) and later taught in the private art school, The Studio. Musgrove was curator of the Winnipeg Art Gallery between 1932-49. He was president of the MSA, 1931-35. He was featued in a retrospective memorial show at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in 1964.
